parade marshals

The 2024 For Peetz Sake Parade Marshals are Lee Walz and Carl Roelle.

These two gentlemen have been part of the Peetz community for many years.

Carl Roelle was born and raised in the Peetz area.  He graduated from Peetz High School in 1972 and married the love of his life, Linda Rennewanz, in April of 1973.  They started their married life living in the town of Peetz.  They raised two boys, Donnell and Derick who also graduated from Peetz.  In December of 1988 Carl and Linda moved on to the family farm east of Peetz.  Carl started his welding career working for Industrial Welding on the project building the feed mill at the Peetz Co-op.  Later he was employed at Schaefer Construction for about 5 years working on elevator construction.  He then began working for the Egging Co. north of Sidney.  He worked with this company off and on for over 20 to 25 years.  The last 10-15 years he worked in the machine shop until his retirement.  Carl has been farming for many years as he farmed with his dad while Carl was working as a welder.  Carl and Linda were blessed with three grandchildren, Macey, Kennedy and Levi.  They attend school at Leyton.  Sadly Carl’s wife, Linda, passed away in September of 2021.  Carl keeps himself busy with farming and attending the grandkids’ sports events.  He has adjusted from being a Peetz Bulldog to a Leyton Warrior.  Carl said he is seeing quite a few little towns in Nebraska from Harrison to Oshkosh to name a few in his following of the grandkids.  Congratulations Carl.  We appreciate having you in our community!

Lee Walz was born and raised in the Crook area.  He graduated from Crook High School in 1955.  He enlisted in the Navy when he was 17 and served for 4 years and came back home.  At that time Peetz held dances so he found himself in Peetz and hanging out with some Peetz boys.  This is where he met Janice Meier, dated her for 9 months and got married.  They decided it would be best if Lee re -enlisted into the Navy.  This decision was a good one.  Lee and Janice and their son Richard traveled the world and saw many sites.  Lee was promoted to be a commissioned officer.  Janice found herself being a sort of den mother to all the military families that worked for Lee.  Janice would follow Lee wherever he sailed.  When the ship came into port, Lee would take leave and travel with Janice. After 21 years of service in 1976 Lee retired from the Navy and he and Janice found themselves in Virginia Beach.  Janice took up working in the real estate business and Lee started working for Service Master, an engineering firm specializing in hospitals and schools.  With many travel miles built up with the airlines, Lee and Janice had points built up so that they could fly Janice’s family to Virgina Beach, Florida and many other sites to see.  After 20 years Lee and Janice decided to move home and retire from their business life.  They found a piece of ground for sale at Peetz and decided to build their home in Peetz.  Lee wanted to get into agriculture, so he went to South Dakota and bought a truck load of cattle, 31 bred heifers and the rest of the truck load was calves.   All he had at the new place was a 2-wire electric fence when his cattle arrived.  This was the beginning of Plateau Red Angus.  Janice was the bookkeeper, and he was the hired hand.  He also purchased farmland, so he bought his equipment as needed.  This has been a sad year for Lee as Janice passed away in April.  He says that they had a full enjoyable life and found Peetz to be a good place to retire.  Lee you may not have graduated from Peetz, but you have been around for quite a while.  Congratulations!
